About Us

Our Story

For the One (FTO) is a foundation in Nepal centred on holistic community development, education and awareness that focuses on working alongside communities to help them create and enact change for themselves.

FTO grew out of the realisation that awareness and education on issues such as human trafficking, slavery, and sex trading were lacking within local communities. Added on to that, after the devastating earthquake that hit Nepal in April 2015 there was an increase in trafficked persons domestically and internationally. This was an overwhelming and disheartening realisation. How could we help these girls and children?

We started with a long term rehabilitation home for underage girls who are survivors of trafficking and the sex trade. Our focus is on holistic recovery and healing (physically, mentally, and emotionally) and then move from that into helping them dream and create a future for themselves.

Our focus then expanded and turned towards working on prevention through holistic community development. Our aims are to facilitate discussions within communities and work alongside them as they take charge of their development. Through these discussions, we are able to establish what are the greatest needs within these communities. Is it a need for education or a decrease in drunkenness? Some examples of the needs that local communities have indicated as issues include a decrease in trafficking, more attendance in school, awareness of human rights, or simply just helping people get their IDs. In essence, the goal of FTO is to empower local communities to realise they can create movement, change and development for themselves.

Meaning of “For The One”

We can all make a difference by helping one person. This is what For the One is about. With all the problems in the world and the magnitude of need, things can become easily overwhelming which prevents us from helping with the little things.

One person, one girl, one community at a time.

We want to remember what this is all about: the people. Not the statistics or the numbers, but the people we work alongside with, helping them when necessary. We are here to listen, support, and work with these people and communities so that they know we are here for them. We care, love, and want them to create a future that they want for themselves.
